To celebrate the fun of reading, and to raise some funds for the library, the Friends of Pacific Grove Public Library is hosting an all-day reading marathon on Saturday, Oct. 27th. We’re looking for children and teen readers to sign up, and pledge to read between 30 minutes and 12 hours at the library! That’s a lot of reading! At the two previous read-a-thons, our library friends raised $20,000 and $13,000 for more books and programs. The 2012 Read-A-Thon lasts from noon to midnight.
Kids, please visit the library before Friday, Oct. 5 to sign up: Reader forms are on display near the check-out desk. We welcome you to read your favorite books on your own, or younger kids can have an adult read to them. As well as being surrounded by books as you read, we’ll have special snacks, face painting, a spooky scavenger hunt, and ghost story-telling just in time for Halloween!
Adults, help the young bookworms by sponsoring a child or a chair. Chairs can be sponsored by individuals or community businesses for $1 per minute that someone is reading in them. Minimum pledge is $30 (30 minutes) up to $720 (all 12 hours!). Contact the PG Library (648-5760) or visit to pick up a sponsorship form, and thanks for supporting reading in the community library!
